Two names for which I specially travelled to (distant) Grolloo. Jeff Beck and, above all, of course, (Sir) Ringo Starr. Jeff Beck impressed me quite a bit with his razor-sharp guitar playing. But especially the finale of his performance: a great performance of “A day in the life”. That was surprising, though, Jimi Hendrix did the same thing before, that was in London in 1967, when Sgt. Peppers just released a few days ago!. And he then started his performance with the same song! Ringo Starr then. Yes, the years are counting, but the fun was still shining, and that was contagious to the (fine) fellow musicians. Including, in my opinion, the legendary Graham Gouldman, known for 10CC but especially for many ten hits from the 1960s (Bus stop and No milk today, etc.). In short, a great concert, which, fortunately, took place in a gigantic covered tent. So that any rain and wind could get in the way. By the way, I liked the whole organization, there was plenty of good and varied food on site and all other facilities (toilets) were sufficiently available. A successful day in Grolloo, in my opinion. All in all, the Twee namen waarvoor ik speciaal ben afgereisd naar het (verre) Grolloo. Jeff Beck en vooral natuurlijk (Sir) Ringo Starr. Jeff Beck maakte op mij behoorlijke indruk met zijn vlijmscherpe gitaarspel. Maar vooral de finale van zijn optreden: een geweldige uitvoering van "A day in the life". Dat was toch wel verrassend, hoewel, Jimi Hendrix heeft ditzelfde ook al gedaan, dat was in London in 1967, toen was Sgt. Peppers nog maar net een paar dagen uitgebracht!. En hij begin zijn optreden toen met hetzelfde nummer! Ringo Starr dan. Ja inderdaad, de jaartjes gaan tellen, maar het spelplezier straalde er nog steeds van af, en dat werkte aanstekelijk op de (prima) mede muzikanten. Waaronder de wat mij betreft legendarische Graham Gouldman, bekend van 10CC maar vooral van vele 10-tallen hits uit de jaren 60. (Bus stop en No milk today e.v.a.). Kortom een prima concert, welke zich, gelukkig, afspeelde in een gigantische overdekte tent. Zodat eventueel regen en wind er geen vat op kreeg. Trouwens de hele organisatie vond ik prima, er was genoeg prima en gevarieerd eten op het terrein en alle overige voorzieningen (toiletten) waren voldoende aanwezig. Ive been there for the first time and was astonished about so many relaxed and old folks. No stress at all and well organized. The arrival by car is totally easy, the parking is quite fast and the parking lot is very close to the festival ground. Joe Bonanza was amazing, Bands Ive never heard before, Laurence Jones - a genius, Marcus King - awesome guitar player, it was a fantastic event and my best birthday present. Ill be back next year. Normally it was 5 stars but Ringo Star was absolutely nothing, he had nothing to do with it. Several people thought that, because after 3 covers, the tent was already half empty. Normaal waren het 5 sterren maar Ringo Star was helemaal niks , hij had er niets te zoeken . Meerdere mensen dachten dat , want na 3 covers was de tent al half leeg.
